Candace, on the day after a most interesting election, I agree that the results may not bode will for the market because of the stall you spoke to. I don’t see much getting done with all the rhetoric and posturing. A message has been sent from the voters and its now pro republican, its con govt. I’m an optimist so I’m hoping the new congress will get things done. Let’s hope. Thanks for your comments.

Jen, great comments! I agree wholeheartedly. We, in our household are treasuring what we have, even if sometimes it seems like a struggle. I’ve learned skills that I used to hire out, cause I didn’t feel like should spend the money. (like this website/blog). I bake bread, make my own hummus and we just bought a foodsaver to cut down on wasting food. Small steps but ones that make me appreciate the little things. After all, as a famous Beatle said, “you can’t buy love”.

Pat, thanks for your comments. I tend to agree with you, although I’m concerned at the recent upturn of the stock market without any real basic fundamentals behind it. I’m bullish long term, but think we have some ups and downs along the path. I, like you will look to job growth as a sign of real recovery.

Julia, thanks for the comment. I agree completely, until people have jobs and homes that aren’t facing foreclosure, we are not making progress. I guess we’ll look back on this some day and focus on the lessons we learned during this challenging time. Sooner rather than later I hope.

Amy, spot on! I agree with you completely. Although I tend to try to be philosophical about it and look for the silver lining, I can’t wait till we return to the days of not worrying about money. Bring back the good ole days : ))

Jean, interesting point of view, I like it. And I think you may have a good point. Even banging your head against the wall stops hurting after a while! I think this is the new norm, and although I dont have to love it, I think there are some benefits of regrouping and refocusing on the really important things in life. Great comment!

Darcie, thanks for commenting. I tend to be optimistic long term, but I believe the recovery will be a rocky road. It will be interesting to see how retail does this holiday season. I know we’re still spending conservatively. Geez how I miss those days of shopping without regard to a BUDGET. Loathe that word.
